What's new in SYB

Hello SYB families,

At this time I can tell you that there hasn’t been a significant change from last week’s message: the “stay at home” order for WI has been enacted until May 26th, spring high school sports teams have officially been cancelled, and on a positive note the weather is looking great!  As we move forward with our plans for summer, please understand that we have the health and safety of your family as our number one concern.  Regarding my first zoom meeting with our Town Board, we plan on having a blueprint for baseball and softball (at this time) so as soon as the state opens up we can, too.  There are still a lot of questions that we do not have answers to so your patience is appreciated.

Typically in May our teams would have already been selected and practicing, but that will not be the case for 2020.  So what can your kids be doing to improve their ball skills?

  1. Play catch.Whether it’s in the yard, driveway, or on a diamond playing catch will improve arm strength and accuracy.Throw long if you have space.

  2. Hit whiffle balls from a pitcher or off a tee.

  3. Hit baseballs into a net from a tee, or batting practice from a pitcher.

  4. Get creative and make drill work into a game, play “corkball”, limitless possibilities.

  5. Check out baseball and softball drills on Youtube. There are 1000’s of them from beginners to professionals.

  6. Run!Lift weights, workout your bodies.Never too early to be active.

  7. Field tennis ball ground balls off a wall, glove or no glove, challenge yourself, make diving plays…

  8. Tons of online activities to do virtually, as well.I posted a few last week.

I also made a pvc hitting net a few years back that my son and I use quite often in our garage that I could send information to you if interested.  Or check out our online sponsors like Dick’s Sporting Goods for a collapsible net.  I have been gifted a Skillz net that I will raffle off.   I will choose one player from a hat that has registered so far as of this Friday.   Stay posted.

In closing, keep the faith.  Get in the dirt!
