Information for the Coaches:

1. Friday, 6/4; Saturday, 6/5 & Sunday, 6/6 – SYB will be hosting our Annual Softball Tourney … so if you have a practice for Saturday at Hillview, State Road or Hwy 33, you will not be able to practice. If you have a 3:00 or later practice on Sunday you should be able to practice unless we have rain which will delay the finish of the tourney. Mormon Coulee is open on both Saturday and Sunday for practices … please e-mail if you want a time … Southern Bluffs is open on Saturday from 8-9:30; 12:30-2:30 and 5:00-6:30 and is open on Sunday from 12:00-4:30 and 6:00-7:30. See attached tourney schedule if you are interested in coming out to see some quality teams!

2. Raffle Tickets - Please remind your players/parents that Raffle Tickets can still be turned to the concession stand white box or can be turned in to you and then to me … last date for raffle ticket turn-in is Thursday, June 25th … so get out there and SELL, SELL, SELL !! I have more tickets if you run out. Remember that the top selling teams get $100 toward their team party at the end of the season.

3. Schedules – I have attached our SYB Game Field schedule which contains the 10U softball In-house schedule and the 10U BB American & National League Schedules … I have also attached the BB independent league schedule for the 10A/B teams, the 12U teams and the 14U teams … also attached is the Coulee Region Softball League Schedule & contacts info that was sent to the softball coaches last week.

4. Concessions & Field Supervisor Schedule/Duties – I have also attached the schedules for both the concessions and field supervisors for the summer … you as the coach or your team parent need to schedule people to man these positions – usually 5-6 people for concessions and 1-2 people for the field supervisors … please show up at 5 pm for your concessions duties and plan to be there until 9 pm for cleanup … a trained opener/closer will be there at the beginning and end to guide the process.

5. Team Photos – The team photos will be in the concession stand for Monday’s opening night games (10U American & National League BB games). Please assign someone to pick these up and distribute to your players.

Pre-season Saturday May 16th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Kim Stoflet is willing to work from 8:30 – 2:00 but would like some help.  If you’re willing to work, call Kim at 788-0371.

If you have something to sell, bring it to the picnic tables in front of the concession stand.  Please label the equipment you’re selling with your name and selling price.  Please make the selling amount a whole dollar amount as we will not have coin change.  When selling an item, Kim will keep the tag and money.  You may pick up your money or unsold equipment at 2:15.  If people would like to pay for equipment with a check, the check will be written out to the person selling the equipment.

SYB is a 100% volunteer organization that is continually trying to improve on past achievements. We rely on parent-volunteer committees for every aspect of our organization, from coaching to uniforms, concessions to the maintenance of this website. SYB has been in existence for over 40 years! The SYB organization is operating in cooperation with, and under the control of the Shelby Town Board. Shelby Youth Ball is proudly sponsored by over 40 local business partners.
SYB has, as the purpose for its existence, the following objectives:

  1. To provide summer recreational activity for area youth, ages 7 through 14, under adult guidance.
  2. To provide exposure to area youth in the form of discipline and sportsmanship.
  3. To provide instruction in baseball and softball skills.
  4. young playerTo help prepare youth for future competitive situations.

    Answers to Frequently asked Questions – SYB Registration:

    • SYB teams typically practice throughout the month of May, a minimum of twice a week. See SYB Practice Schedule (will be available in May).
    • Games are typically scheduled from the first week in June – thru the last week in July.
    • League games are scheduled on weeknights starting at 5:30pm or 7:00pm.
    • All 10U “C” games are played in La Crosse, Wisconsin on one of the SYB maintained complexes.SYB Fields
    • When playing as an 11-year-old or if your son or daughter is selected to be on a tournament team, travel is required.
    • The tournament teams, for the more advanced player, will play tournaments on several weekends (not all) in June and July in addition to the league weekday schedule.
    • Several out-of-town overnight stays will be scheduled for the older tournament teams.
    • Attendance at SYB Tryout weekend is required to be considered for a tournament team.
    • Players are not required to tryout to participate on a “C” team or Lower division team.
    • Players that tryout, but are not selected on a tournament team, will automatically be put into the “C” or Lower division team draft.
    • Coaches will assemble to pick teams at Draft night. Players and parents (who are not coaching) are not allowed to participate in the team draft meeting.
    • Coach pitch – Baseball (American League) is recommended for players ages 7-8 or beginner players under age 10.
    • SYB does not have a T-ball league.
    • Parents may petition the SYB Executive Board to allow a player under the age of 7 to participate in the American League division. SYB will consider kids who are mature and skilled enough to defend themselves from a ball hit/thrown by a 10yr-old.
    • Kid pitch – Baseball (National League) is recommended for more skilled players ages 8-10.
    • Shelby Youth Ball will place all kids who signup at SYB Registration meetings or prior to the Registration deadline on a team for the entire summer season regardless if you tryout.

    The Shelby Youth Ball Committee Volunteers and Parents meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Shelby Town Hall – located at 2800 Ward Avenue, La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601. These meetings are run under the direction of the SYB Executive Board and are specific to youth Baseball and Softball operations only. Please feel free to come and participate. Parent involvement is a must!
