Welcome to Shelby 10U Softball
by posted 05/14/2021

Hello Shelby Families,

Welcome to 10U Softball - Cary Specialized Services(CSS)!  I have been informed I'll be the head coach of our girls team this year, assisted by Daryl Keys.  We could definitely use some more help if any other parents can step forward.  I have coached other teams and I can take care of the administration side, but really anyone who can set a ball on a tee would be a big help.  I have five kids at different levels of the Shelby programs, and I am coaching on three of those teams.  Feel free to reach out to me if you can help, even if only certain days.

As mentioned in the group Zoom call for softball, we will have regular season games starting in June on Monday and Wednesday evenings.  I expect once the season starts we will have at least one more practice per week, probably Tuesday.  I am working on scheduling practices for next week on Monday and Wednesday at Hillview. I will send out an update when I hear back on field availability.

We will be hosting our Shelby 10U tournament the weekend of June 11-13th.  Right now I only see two other teams signed up, but it's certainly enough for round robin play.  Parents are expected to help run the tournament and work concessions, so please lend your support when asked.  Every little bit helps!  Also Boys and Girls Club in La Crosse will host their tournament the weekend of June 25-26th

One last thing, if you could email me your daughters jersey size (standard youth or adult sizes) and her top three choices for jersey numbers I can get that order going as well.

Oh and one last, last thing which I think was missed in the group meeting, one piece of equipment the girls will need is a softball face guard to be used while in the field, along with a glove.  Helmets and bats can be brought or there will be some available in our team bag.  Cleats are generally a good idea.  For games, if you could pick up a pair of black colored softball pants so the girls will match.  With only a few tournaments I think we can manage with just one pair.  The discount at Dick's is available this weekend (if you are in store and the item is not available, they can provide a code that is usable to order online).  Also I stop at Play It Again Sports often for used gear.

If it seems like everything is a bit behind this year, you are correct.  I'll try to get you all the information I can as it becomes available.  Looking forward to the girls learning the basics of softball and having fun in the fresh air!

Thanks,

Matt
